Sequins and Storytelling
Living through movement, loving through words
Dancing into a new Chapter
For years, I’ve told stories without saying a word.
As a Raqs Sharqi dancer, I’ve learned that movement can express joy, resilience, curiosity, and connection in ways that words sometimes cannot. Every performance begins with a story, even if the audience never hears it spoken aloud.
So why am I starting a Substack?
Because lately I’ve felt called to explore another form of storytelling.
Writing has always been present in my life; in journals, notes, unfinished ideas, and quiet reflections, but I've rarely shared those thoughts publicly.
Dance gave me the courage to step onto a stage. Perhaps writing can teach me the courage to share what's on the page.
Creativity thrives in Community
This space will be a blend of many things: reflections on dance, creativity, culture, personal growth, and the lessons that emerge when we allow ourselves to be beginners. I don't have a perfectly mapped-out destination, and that's part of the appeal.
Pursuing Passionate People
I don’t have all the answers, and I’m not presenting myself as an expert. I’m simply someone who loves to learn, loves to create, and wants to document the journey.
My hope is that this space resonates with other people who are pursuing passions alongside careers, family, and the countless demands of daily life. If you’ve ever wanted to write, dance, paint, start a business, learn an instrument, or begin something new but felt you didn’t have enough time, you’re exactly the kind of person I hope to connect with.
The Imperfect/Perfect moment
Outside of dance, my life is full. I work full-time, juggle family responsibilities, and spend much of my day taking care of others. Like many people, I often tell myself I’ll pursue a creative project “when I have more time.”
The truth is, that time never magically appears.
So instead of waiting for the perfect moment, I’ve decided to start now…which, in its own way, is sort of perfect.
For my first question to you:
What’s something you’ve been wanting to start but haven’t made time for yet? I want to know what makes you sparkle!
Thank you for being here at the beginning. I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

what makes me sparkle is a fantasy novel I've been writing for two years. Journey of Destiny. started it not because the timing was right but because the story kept showing up every time I tried to sleep.
your line about the perfect moment never appearing is something I lived too.
one day I just stopped waiting for life to settle and opened a doc.
there's something in what you said about dance giving you courage for the page. one form of showing up teaching you what the next one can be.
glad to be here at the beginning of this.
Keep sparkling! 🩷
